Great Value Dryer Sheets

Game Plan:

I have always wanted to redesign a product and I am finally doing it!  I created a Pinterest board a long time ago with some sweet ideas and I have been continually adding to it.

I went to Walmart today and looked around the store for a product with a design that I thought would be fun to improve upon.  It was actually harder than I expected because there are so many well designed products!  I came across these Great Value dryer sheets and they looked perfect for me to try redesigning.

Target Group:

Women.  Definitely women.  Moms are typically the ones who do the laundry in the traditional family as well as the ones who go shopping for dryer sheets.  My product redesign will be targeting mature females.  I want to create a trendy, floral, aesthetically appealing dryer sheet box that women will want to leave sitting on top of their dryers.

A Brief History:

According to Wikipedia,  Great Value is “Walmart’s most extensively developed retail brand.” They keep their marketing and advertising expenses low so that customers can buys their products for cheaper.  Great Value first came around in 1993 and even though the brand was redesigned in 2008 it still has an outdated look to the packaging and design.  Great Value products are available in many countries and Walmarts around the world.

The Big Idea:

I want to redesign a box of Great Value’s dryer sheets.  Personally, I tend to look at Great value products being of lesser quality because of the often bland design.  I want to create a simple, but trendy looking design that will help customers feel that they are buying a product just as great as the more expensive version on the shelf. I not only want to redesign the label, but I would like to change the shape of the box it is in.  I want t a cute and trendy box that will make women want it in their homes.  I’m still deciding if I want to redesign the logo or just the packaging, so we’ll see how this goes.
