One Happy Family Portrait Shoot

Kip and Sarah Robinson Family Portraits in the Rick’s Gardens at BYU-Idaho.

The more I do family portrait shoots, the more fun they become.  I spent an entire evening photography multiple families of different shapes and sizes and I came away feeling confident in my ability to take family photos.

The Robinson family was especially fun to work with because how fun the children were and how eager they were to be photographed.   I discovered that it really helps when families color coordinate, but they must coordinate in the right way.  If you are looking to get some family portraits done, make sure you plan out your outfits and color coordinate! Click It Up a Notch has a great blog post on how to best plan what to wear for your next session.

Camera Settings: 1/100 sec. at F/5.6, ISO 200, 49 mm. Lighting: Speed light on a stand with a flash bender to diffuse the light.

The Robinsons were dressed in bright summer colors and since they were all blonde, I wanted the images to have a light and breezy feel to them.  My classmate and fellow photographer, Douglas Phan, showed me a technique to create a filter in Lightroom that adds the warm yellow tint.
