For this assignment I wanted to get extraordinary shots in regular everyday places. I loved that I didn’t have to travel to some exotic location or make a full-day trip out of this project. I simply walked through my house with a different perspective and a mind for creativity. I took a lot of photos of a lot of random things. Some where awesome and some we not-some. I bought this onion several months ago and it has just sat in our pantry. One day I walked in to discover the onion had grown green curly locks! I have since left it to continue to grow. For this photo I did light painting to get good lighting. If you didn’t know, pantries aren’t usually equipped with studio lighting equipment. So I turned out the lights, put my camera on an eight second exposure and then used my cellphone to light up this gorgeous onion. I’ll admit that it isn’t quite as clear and crisp as I would like. I didn’t realize this until I posted the photo actually. I will need more practice on manual focusing. Either that or Lasik eye surgery! The kitchen sink and I are good friends even though I wish we weren’t. Washing dishes is one of my least favorite activities. It’s down there with cleaning the toilet. I was originally trying to take photos of the dishes and food coloring when I happened to catch the beautiful shine of the steel of the sink. Who knew a sink could look so good? I didn’t need a long exposure for this shot because there was plenty of natural light coming in from the window. I had my shutter speed at 1/80, F-stop at 5.6, and ISO at 200. I used a spray bottle to get a nice scattering of water in the basin. I loved the rich silver and gold coming from the sink. I then added a few Lightroom effects to sharpen and enrich the colors. I must say this is definitely the best photo I’ve ever taken of a kitchen sink. It’s also the only photo I’ve ever taken of a kitchen sink.
