Have you every heard of moody food? No, it’s not food with hormones. No, it’s not food that woke up on the wrong side of the bed either. Moody food photography is dark, mysterious, and has dramatic lighting that gives food a mood.
Creating dramatic food images is a powerful way to influence others in advertising. These type of images are flying around Pinterest and will look impressive in a portfolio. Learning how to shoot moody food will help you learn your camera settings and how to control the light.
Creative Examples of Moody Food:
I first heard about moody food from my friend, Tyler Clay. Tyler tried it out and shared with me some of his tricks to creating the mood with my food. You can check out his Moody Food right here!
I also, learned a lot about shooting food from Donal Skehan. His video, Food Photography: Food at home, inspired me to take my own food photos at my apartment and take advantage of the natural light.
After trying my own hand at moody food, I have created a simple tutorial that will give you 7 key elements to orchestrating your own beautifully dramatic moody food photos.
